site visit to bok kai temple, marysville, california
On June 29, 2002 Sacred Sites International will make a day-trip to tour the Bok Kai Temple in Marysville, California.
The temple is on the National Trust's Most Endangered List of Historic Places. The Taoist temple, dating to 1880, is in dire need of funding for restoration. It is the only Taoist Temple in the United States with a primary diety of Bok Kai, the God of Water. The temple has elaborate Chinese murals on the exterior and gilded altars on the interior.
The trip is designed as a fund-raising visit and the registration fee includes a tax-deductible contribution for the temple's restoration, plus a lunch in Marysville's historic Chinatown. Transportation will be in carpools.
There are two registration levels: $30 student/senior/low income or $50 general. For more details, please contact Sacred Sites International Foundation, 510-525-1304, sacredsite@aol.com. You can learn more about the temple and view photos at the website of the National Trust: www.nth.org/11Most/2001/bokkai.htm.
