Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located 17 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. This is the good news and the bad news. It is a wonderful wild area where urban dwellers can go to experience natural open spaces and view ancient pictographs. Its proximity to Las Vegas means it can be accessed easily by vandals and that is just what has occurred. Vandals spray painted over some of the prehistoric rock images causing serious damage to the art. There is a $2500 reward for information leading to those who caused the destruction. You can read more about the story in the Las Vegas Review Journal.
